Project Overview
SD1 is building a 10.5-million-gallon equalization (EQ) storage tank and a 38.3-million-gallon-per-day wet weather pump station along Madison Pike at the Dudley property in Ft. Wright, Kenton County, Kentucky.
This project is part of the Lakeview improvements recommended in the Updated Watershed Plan and is a key step in SD1’s Clean H2O40 program to eliminate capacity-related sewer overflows by 2040.
The new facility will:
- Store extra flow from heavy rain events
- Pump stored water back into the system when capacity is available
- Eliminate 4.25 million gallons (8.93%) of sanitary sewer overflows in a typical year
- Protect Banklick Creek and improve water quality in Northern Kentucky
By combining storage capacity and pumping power in one location, the Lakeview EQ Tank and Pump Station will help prevent sewer overflows and improve water quality.
Fall 2025 Update
What’s already done
The bottom of the tank is poured
About three quarters of the tank’s walls are standing
All of the pipes underneath the tank are finished
Crews have started digging for the pump station — about 35 feet down so far (it needs to go 68 feet, which is about as tall as a 6-story building)
What’s happening now
Workers are putting in the discharge pipe that carries water out of the tank
More digging at the pump station site
Crews are putting up the rest of the tank walls
What’s coming up
Finish digging the pump station hole
Start building the pump station itself
Begin putting in the pumps and electrical equipment
Add the top to the tank
