The storm water program was designed to meet unfunded storm water regulations, address local flooding issues and prepare for SD1 to assume ownership of the region’s storm water collection systems. To meet these needs, the following services are provided:
- Assistance with projects to upgrade and replace the existing storm water infrastructure, to reduce flooding and pollution.
- Development of plans to properly address storm water runoff in areas of new development through master planning.
- Development of rules and regulations that address post-construction storm water runoff.
- Identification and elimination of improper connections that illegally dump waste, instead of storm water, directly into rivers and streams.
- Plan review and inspection of construction sites that include erosion and sediment control requirements and storm water detention.
- Development of community education programs to inform the public about the negative affects of pollution in storm water runoff.
- Implementation of a storm water curriculum in over 100 Northern Kentucky schools and Public Service Park field trips for over 2000 students.
- Monitoring water quality of local waterways to identify types of pollution.
