When wastewater is flushed from your toilet or drained from your household sinks, washing machine, or dishwasher and leaves your home, it flows through your community's collection system to a wastewater treatment facility. The wastewater from homes, along with wastewater from businesses, industries, and other facilities, is treated to reduce or remove pollutants before being returned back into the environment. SD1’s wastewater education program is designed to enhance awareness of the role that this collection and treatment process plays in protecting the environmental and public health of our community.
