Protecting the Environment Award
Sanitation District No. 1’s (SD1) Annual Protecting the Environment Award Ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. The award ceremony recognizes teachers and students who have gone above and beyond to protect the environment and water resources in Northern Kentucky.

Six schools competed for cash prizes. The results were as follows:
1st Place - St. Catherine of Siena School, Ft. Thomas, Kentucky (Teacher: Dave Schlachter).
2nd Place - Sanders Home School, Hebron, Kentucky (Teacher: Dr. Karen Keefer).
3rd Place - Ludlow Elementary, Ludlow, Kentucky (Teacher: Pam Farrell). St. Augustine School, Covington, Kentucky (Teacher: Elaine Goetz).
Honorable Mention - St. Joseph School, Cold Springs, Kentucky (Teacher: Carol Smith) Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Burlington, Kentucky (Teacher: Anita France).

The following twelve students were recognized for individual excellence:
Alec Hazeres and Amelia Beatsch from Grandview Elementary, Christopher Sanders and William Sanders from Sanders Home School, Latasha Landrum from St. Augustine Elementary, Nate Enslen, Grant Schwarber, Will Lampe, Alex Herweh, Noah Connolly and John Lampe from St. Catherine of Siena School and Nicole Robertson from St. Mary School.
