Tree life after the holiday season

12/06/2012 - The holiday season is here, which means many of you are searching for the perfect tree for your home. Before purchasing your tree, it is important to consider what you will do with your tree after the holiday season has ended.

If you plan on purchasing a living tree this season, try investing in one you can replant. One medium size tree can soak up and hold around 2,300 gallons of water in one year. By doing so, trees help prevent problems such as flooding and erosion.

However, if you decide to purchase a real tree that you are not able to replant, make sure you dispose of your tree properly. Contact your local solid waste coordinator for drop-off locations and curb pick-up dates. Most of the collected trees are chipped and reused as mulch at playgrounds or for planting.
