This picture shows the main access road that runs through the new Eastern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The plant, which is scheduled to begin operation in late 2007, is located off Route 10 in Alexandria. |
The new Eastern Regional WWTP will house two large, circular clarifiers, where solids will settle out of the wastewater and then be removed from the bottom of the clarifiers. |
The Process & Chemical Storage Facility at the Eastern Regional WWTP will utilize a sludge press and hopper. The processed sludge will then be hauled to a landfill. This facility will also house a skimming concentrator and chemical feed rooms. |
The administration building at the Eastern Regional WWTP is near completion and will house a laboratory, control room, office space, locker facilities and a meeting room. |
Wastewater will be held in an equalization tank at the Eastern Regional WWTP in order to maintain solids in suspension during storm events. The flow will slowly be released from the equalization tank into the plant once the storm event has ended. |
An oxidation ditch will be used at the Eastern Regional WWTP as part of the biological treatment process. It is an effective form of secondary wastewater treatment technology. |
This influent pump station will send approximately 850,000 gallons of wastewater per day to the new Eastern Regional WWTP once the plant enters operation. This flow is expected to increase steadily in the future. |
